Roban 800 MD Helicopter Barrier Filter Kit

I purchased this to add to my scale details of my Magnum PI MD-500. At first glance I wasn’t convinced that I’d use it. After all; who really looks at the top of your heli and furthermore who really sees the top of your heli when you’re flying?! The answer is; Nobody! But in the scale game, scale details make the difference. So going forward I made the fuselage cuts in my body and mounted the the filter holder with silicone. I’ve stopped using epoxy in many places because over time it gets brittle or turns yellow and has a tendency to crack and break off. You’ll need a heat gun to for the holder to your airframe as well as the filter. If not - see my previous sentence and this is not an area where you want parts to come loose. The filter is robust, but for me it lacked Cale detail so I used a Dremel and took the painstaking time to open up all the vent lines. Little did I know that it would have an actual cooling effect during flights. I also chose to recess wart magnets into the filter so I can remove the filter and access my Ikon flight controller for updating. So all in all, it is a good scale addition if you take the time to make it such. It’s very robust, but can be misled by a bit of heat. I did not paint my filter and left it in gray for the color contrast, but because it is removable, I can always paint it at a later date. Install it if you are going to make it functional or you’re a static details kind of person - if not I would say you’re not going to notice it being there. Some models of 500 don’t have it anyway!

Great quality and functional item. Especially if you run a receiver like BeastX and you need to access the unit for setups and adjustments of flight controls. Simple install, cut a hole the shape of the grill, epoxy the frame underneath, then install the grill into the frame. Some experimentation is required to find the best location, mine put the front edge of the grill portion about 1 inch from the existing open for the rotor system. A knife is a handy tool for shaping the edges of the base so it fits up snug inside. Use the edge as a scraping tool and it will remove material very easily. Very pleased with the install and the product!

This is a must have Scale Detail for the MD500 Helicopter models. Not only is it Scale it's Functional & allows you access to your Flybarless Gyro, Servos, maintenance, and PreFlight Checks otherwise not possible without Removal of Mechanics from Fuselage .
